PRIVACY
Your steps stay on your phone.
This is the whole policy. It is short because the app collects very little, which is a design decision rather than an oversight.
Step counts never leave your phone
Stepwords reads your step count from Apple Health or Health Connect and converts it into Drafts on the device. The number is never uploaded, never logged and never sent to any third party. There is no endpoint on our server that accepts a step count, so there is nowhere for one to go even by accident.
What we do store
An anonymous player id issued at first launch, the Moves you commit and the Season they belong to, and how many Drafts and Swaps you took on each day — counts only, never the walking behind them. If you use friends, we store the handle you chose, your friend code, and who you have added. If you sign in with Apple or Google we store the subject identifier they give us. For a subscription we store whether it is active and when it expires, and nothing else — the payment itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play and by RevenueCat, our subscription provider.
Getting a board back
Moves are stored so a score can be recomputed rather than trusted, and so a board can be restored to a new device. That restore needs an account: if you have signed in with Apple or Google, your boards come back. If you have never signed in, the player id lives only on that phone, and losing it loses the boards with it.
What we do not collect
No name, no email address unless you give us one, no location, no advertising identifier, no contacts, no analytics profile sold or shared with anybody. There are no third-party trackers or ad SDKs in the app.
Sign-in
Signing in is optional and always has been — the game is fully playable without an account. Apple and Google tell us only that a particular account authenticated. If you use Apple's Hide My Email we never see a real address.
Subscriptions
Payment is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card details, and we are told only that a subscription exists, when it lapses, and which store it came from.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account from inside the app: Account → Delete account. It happens immediately and it is a deletion, not a deactivation — the player record goes, along with every Move you have committed, every board and Draft Key, your daily Draft and Swap counts, your handle and friend code, and every friend connection in both directions, so you disappear from other people's boards as well as your own. If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to revoke the tokens it issued us. Nothing is kept and there is nothing to undo, so a deleted board cannot be restored even by signing in again. A subscription is held by the App Store or Google Play and not by us, so deleting your account does not cancel it — that is done in your store account. If you would rather not do it in the app, email support@stepwords.fun from the address on your account, or from any address with your player id if you never signed in.
Children
Stepwords is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
